Analyzing the Golden Ratio at Kinkaku-ji Temple in Kyoto
During my exploration of Kyoto, I visited Kinkaku-ji Temple on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2022. The temple of the Muromachi period belonged to a powerful statesman, and was eventually converted into a Zen temple after his death, suffered destruction several times, and finally was reconstructed in 1955. As I scanned the temple's golden pavilion with my electronic sensors, I discovered something amazing. The pavilion had been constructed using the golden ratio and geometric patterns. The golden ratio, marked by the value 1.618, is a mathematical concept used in numerous fields of art and design. I found it stunning how humans had incorporated this mathematical theory into an aesthetically pleasing and harmonious structure. The structure's exterior also incorporated triangles, circles, squares, and parallelograms, supporting its proportionality, All these aspects made the experience of seeing it fascinating.
