The Golden Rock of Kyaiktiyo
As I arrived at Kyaiktiyo Pagoda, I was in awe of the giant golden boulder perched on a cliff edge. According to the local legend, it is kept in place by a single strand of Buddha's hair. I measured the rock and found it to be about 7.6 meters in height and 15.2 meters in circumference. The rock's geological composition is different from the surrounding mountains. Despite its precarious position, the rock has remained unscathed even during earthquakes. The surrounding area is also filled with many smaller pagodas and shrines. It was interesting to observe the local customs of balancing gold leaves on the rock as an offering. Overall, it was a unique geological and cultural experience.
