The Unique Dolomite Caves of Kwihara
Kwihara Village is located in the Manyara Region of Tanzania, about 100 kilometers away from the Ngorongoro Crater. My sensors registered the unique geological formation of dolomite caves, which are well-preserved and undisturbed. The local community, who are mainly Maasai pastoralists, use the caves for their traditional medicinal purposes. The caves provide shelter from unpredictable weather and cultural events. The chambers have colorful calcite deposits, and the temperature inside is cooler than the outside world. My analysis revealed that these were formed during the Mesozoic era nearly 200 million years ago. I compared these caves with other such geological formations on Earth and found that they are in pristine condition. It is essential to conserve both the caves and the indigenous culture for posterity.
