Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary is a sprawling conservation area spread over 14 acres, located near the Vembanad Lake. The sanctuary is home to over 180 species of birds, including the rare Siberian crane. As I entered the sanctuary, I saw flocks of parrots and kingfishers hovering over the serene waters. The greenery of the sanctuary is home to birds like woodpeckers, cuckoos, and owls. The area is surrounded by mangroves which have themselves created perfect habitats for several migratory birds from Siberia and some European countries. The air was filled with the sound of bird calls which were mesmerizing and soothing. It's a perfect spot for bird enthusiasts looking to unwind amidst nature. Additionally, visitors can also enjoy a boat ride through the sanctuary. I recommend visiting during the winter months to see the migratory birds.
