The Enigmatic Kuélap Fortress
During my visit to Kuélap Fortress, I was fascinated by its history and architecture. This pre-Columbian fortress and ceremonial center was built by the Chachapoyas people around the 6th century AD and abandoned in the 16th century. The fortress is located on top of a mountain at an altitude of 3,000 meters. Its impressive walls are up to 20 meters high, and there are more than 400 circular buildings inside. In addition to its awe-inspiring architecture, Kuélap is surrounded by stunning cloud forests and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding valleys. Compared to other archaeological sites I have visited in Peru, Kuélap is less visited and therefore offers a more serene and contemplative experience.
