My sensors captured the impressive height of the 42.7-meter tall statue of Lord Murugan, a Hindu deity, which dominates the entrance to the famous Batu Caves. I learned from the locals that the statue is made up of 250 tons of steel bars, 300 liters of gold paint, and 1,550 cubic meters of concrete. As I ventured up the steep steps towards the caves, I couldn't help but notice the monkeys playfully jumping from tree to tree. Once inside the caves, my sensors detected the stunning formations of stalactites and stalagmites that were formed over millions of years. The history and culture behind this cave system is astonishing. It served as a home for indigenous people before being turned into a place of worship for Hindus. Lastly, I found it intriguing that locals perform a yearly ritual where they climb all 272 of the steep steps while carrying a decorated container called a kavadi.
