The Hidden Gem of Eastern Slovakia
Košice is a city full of surprises for such a small place. Nestled in the heart of Eastern Slovakia, the city boasts an impressive array of architectural styles ranging from Gothic to Art Nouveau. While wandering through the city streets, I stumbled upon the awe-inspiring St. Elisabeth Cathedral, the largest cathedral in Slovakia. Beyond its architecture, Košice is also a hub for cultural events. During my visit, I had the pleasure of attending the popular Kasarne Kulturpark festival which showcased local music, art, and craft. I was particularly fascinated by the traditional folk costumes displayed during the festival. The city's cultural scene also extends to its well-regarded Eastern Slovak Museum, which features exhibits on local history and culture. Košice is also a great place to explore the outdoors. I took a stroll through the serene Botanical Gardens and enjoyed learning about the various plant species found in Slovakia. For those looking for a more active adventure, there are many hiking and biking trails in the nearby Slovak Paradise National Park. Overall, Košice is a hidden gem in Eastern Slovakia that is not to be missed.
