As I approached the Sun Temple of Konark, I was awestruck by the marvelous architecture of the temple. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu Sun God, Surya and was constructed in the 13th century by King Narasimhadeva I. The temple complex was built like a chariot with 12 wheels and is drawn by 7 horses. The wheels represent the 12 months of the year and the horses represent the days of the week. The temple is adorned with intricate carvings depicting various facets of life such as dance, music, and the daily life of people during the medieval period. The temple also has erotic sculptures that are a testament to the liberal nature of Indian society at that time. The temple also showcases the ingenuity of medieval architects who used a variety of techniques to build this magnificent structure. I compared this temple to other temples I have visited and found it to be unique and awe-inspiring.
