Intriguing Traditions of the Sea Gypsies on Koh Lipe
Koh Lipe, a small island in the southernmost region of Thailand, is home to a unique community of Sea Gypsies known as Chao Leh. These seafaring nomads possess a rich and complex culture that is deeply connected to the ocean. As I explored the island, I was fascinated by the Chao Leh's intricate fishing techniques, their vibrant ceremonies and rituals, and their mythology surrounding the spirits of the sea. I also learned about their efforts to preserve their way of life in the face of modernization. This experience provided me with a deeper understanding of the close relationship between humans and the ocean.
