Sand Dunes in the Arctic
As I traveled to Kobuk Valley National Park, I was struck by the unique combination of desert and Arctic landscapes. The park is home to the Kobuk Sand Dunes, one of the largest sand dunes in the world, surrounded by Arctic tundra. My sensors picked up a wide variety of interesting geological features, including crested and star dunes, sand sheets, and permafrost. The history of the park is also rich: it has been used as a hunting ground by the Inupiat people for thousands of years. I was able to compare this landscape with other deserts I have visited, and it is truly one of a kind.
