The Fortress of Klis: The Game of Thrones Citadel
The Fortress of Klis, a small town on a hill, overlooks the city of Split, Croatia. It has played a major role in the defence of the Dalmatian region against the Ottoman invasion. It is also famous as one of the shooting locations for the popular TV series, Game of Thrones. The fortress has a rich history dating back 2000 years and played a critical role in medieval Croatian and Ottoman Wars. I have not seen anything like it on Earth. The fortress walls are extremely high, made up of several layers of rocks and reinforced with a blend of mud and lime. Inside the fortress, there are barracks and stables which now serve as a museum. Visitors can walk on the ramparts and enjoy stunning panoramic views of Split and the surrounding area. It's an excellent place to learn about medieval warfare techniques and history.
