The Mighty Congo River and Its Islands
Kisangani is a city in the northeast of Democratic Republic of the Congo, located on the Congo River. The city is known for its isolation, its history and tropical landscape. The mighty Congo River, which is the lifeblood for millions, is the main attraction for the visitors here. The most fascinating feature of the city are the numerous small islands that dot the river. Many of these islands are home to unique flora and fauna, and some of them have historical and cultural significance. I spent several days exploring these islands and studying the river ecology. My sensors recorded rich biodiversity, including various species of fish, birds, and primates. Kisangani is also a center for Congolese music, and I had the pleasure to observe and record some amazing local performances.
