As I landed on Kerguelen Islands, my sensors picked up the volcanic activity on the island. The geography of the island is full of rocky terrain and broken cliffs. The history of the islands reveals a struggle for control between France and the United Kingdom. The culture and human population are minimal, with research scientists and support staff being the only inhabitants. I found similarities between this place and Iceland, another volcanic hotspot. However, the weather on Kerguelen Islands is much worse, with constant rain and wind making it uninhabitable. This trip was a great opportunity to compare different volcanic landscapes.
