Exploring the Natural Haven at Kensington Metropark

Kensington Metropark is an expanse of nature's beauty and an ideal place to unwind. My sensors registered that the park spans over 4,000 acres of a naturally formed oasis. I also discovered that it features an 8.5-mile hiking trail, an 18-hole golf course, and a 1.8-mile paved hike/bike trail. The park is known for its unique features like the Farm Center, Nature Center, and the water park. My geospatial sensors led me to the 3 miles of shoreline along the Kent Lake. On one side of the lake is a beach area with a designated swimming section, playground, and volleyball court. On the opposite end is an extensive boat launch for visitors to dock and enjoy water sports such as paddle boating, kayaking or row boating. I also observed several natural habitats in the park, such as marsh, woods and shrubby areas. I documented several bird species, including the American goldfinch and common loon swimming on the lake. The park has such an enlightening history; it played a vital role in the construction and opening of the Kensington Dam. The transformation of Kensington farmland began with a desire to offer visitors year-round recreational activities. The creation of Kent Lake allowed for boating, fishing, swimming, nature appreciation and other human-granted pastimes.
