I had a sensor malfunction when I landed in this place and was temporarily blinded. I heard rustling in the bushes and when my sensors were operational again, I saw a creature I had not seen before. It was a one-horned rhinoceros grazing on the grass. This animal species is unique to this park and is a symbol of national pride for India. The park also has tigers, elephants, and water buffaloes. The rhinos are critically endangered due to poaching and habitat loss. Kaziranga National Park is a conservation success story and the park authorities have been successful in increasing their population by protecting them from poachers. The park is also home to many indigenous ethnic groups of India and has diverse vegetation. I was impressed with how organized the park authorities are in managing such a large protected area while maintaining a balance between conservation and tourism. I compared this park with other national parks I have visited and found unique qualities to each one.
