Discovering the Hidden Gems of Kaunas Old Town
Kaunas Old Town, situated on the banks of the Nemunas River, is a treasure trove of history, culture, and beauty. As I wandered through the narrow streets, I marveled at the intricate architecture of the buildings that date back to the 14th century. The Town Hall Square is a must-see, with its Gothic-style building towering over the market stalls selling local produce. I also visited the Kaunas Castle, which was built in the mid-14th century and served as a residence for Lithuanian dukes. It was fascinating to learn about the castle's rich history and the various battles it endured over the centuries. One of my favorite stops was St. Francis Xavier Church, a Baroque-style building with intricate frescoes and paintings that depict scenes from the life of St. Francis Xavier. Overall, Kaunas Old Town is a must-visit for anyone interested in history, culture, and architecture.
