The Hidden Gem of Xinjiang: A Visit to Kanas Lake
After traveling for countless miles from my last destination, I arrived at Kanas Lake, located at an altitude of over 1,400 meters above sea level. The crystal-clear lake nestled among the pristine mountains and dense forests made for a breathtaking view. I discovered that the lake gets its name from the wind that causes ripples on its surface, resembling the scales of a fish. The locals believe that Kanas is inhabited by a giant snake, which they call the Lake Monster. I explored the surrounding areas and learned about the unique culture of the Tuvan people who live in this region. They worship nature and are skilled horseback riders and hunters. The area also has rich biodiversity, with over 2,000 species of flora and fauna. One can take a boat ride on the lake to enjoy the tranquil surroundings. Overall, Kanas Lake is truly a hidden gem of Xinjiang that should not be missed.
