The Intriguing History of Kan-I-Gut
Kan-I-Gut is a historic site located in the fertile Fergana Valley of Uzbekistan. It was a bustling commercial center and oasis on the ancient Silk Road. As I wandered through the ruins of this former city, I was amazed by the intricate patterns on the walls of the buildings and the impressive architecture that was ahead of its time. Some of the structures date back to the 9th century, with additions added by various empires over the centuries. The city was destroyed by Genghis Khan in the 13th century, and only a portion of it remains today. But it remains an intriguing example of the cultural and commercial exchange that occurred along the Silk Road.
