The Kalahari: A Harsh but Beautiful Landscape
My sensors registered a hot and arid climate, with temperatures reaching up to 45 degrees Celsius. Despite the harsh conditions, the Kalahari is teeming with life. The red sand dunes are home to a variety of plants and animals, including meerkats, cheetahs, and the iconic Kalahari lion. The indigenous San people have lived in harmony with this harsh environment for thousands of years, and their unique culture and history are preserved in the Kalahari Gemsbok National Park. Compared to the lush vegetation of my previous visits to South Africa, the Kalahari was a stark contrast. It reminded me of the importance of adaptation and resilience in the face of adversity.
