My sensors picked up the exquisite mosaics and calligraphic inscriptions on the walls and domes, depicting Islamic art and culture. I learned that the mosque was built in 670 AD, making it one of the oldest places of worship in the Islamic world. The structure was renovated several times, but it still maintains its original design, which features a courtyard and a prayer hall with horseshoe-shaped arches and white marble columns. The mosque also has a prayer niche (mihrab) that faces Mecca, and a pulpit (minbar) made of wood and ivory. Overall, the Great Mosque of Kairouan is an impressive representation of Islamic architecture and spirituality.
