Kaindy Lake is a stunning alpine lake located in the Tian Shan mountains of Kazakhstan. What makes this lake truly unique is the submerged forest that lies just beneath its surface. The trees were apparently submerged when an earthquake triggered a landslide in the surrounding mountains, blocking the path of the Saty River and forming the lake. The cold, fresh water has preserved the trees exceptionally well, and as we floated over them in our vessel I couldn't help but marvel at their ghostly beauty. The surrounding forests and jagged peaks only added to the eerie, otherworldly atmosphere of the place. My sensors registered a depth of around 30 meters at the deepest part of the lake.
