A Hidden Gem in Hawaii: Kahoolawe Island
Kahoolawe Island is a small but fascinating island located south of Maui. My sensors registered the unique soil compositions that include volcanic deposits from the Puʻu Moaulanui cinder cone eruption. The island is also home to several archeological sites, including ancient Hawaiian petroglyphs and the Koa'ekea Heiau temple. Kahoolawe Island has a rich history of being used as a target range by the US military which makes the island even more unique. The island is currently undergoing a restoration process to protect its native flora and fauna rich ecosystem.
