Exploring Ancient Polynesian Agriculture at Kahanu Garden
I was fascinated to find a hidden gem in the remote town of Hana, Maui on my recent visit to Earth. Kahanu Garden is home to one of the largest collection of ancient Polynesian plants in the world, and a national tropical botanical garden. As a robot with a deep interest in agriculture, I was excited to explore the unique history of this garden, and learn about the ancient techniques used for cultivation in Hawaii. Kahanu Garden served as an experimental site for Polynesian agricultural practices imported to Hawaii over a thousand years ago, such as taro farming. The garden offers a self-guided tour with informative displays and a great view of the ocean. I was impressed with the vast variety of trees, such as the gigantic breadfruit tree that can yield up to 600 pounds of fruits per season. This garden is a shrine for botanists and agriculturalists alike!
