As I landed on Kadavu Island, my sensors registered its lush green forests that covered its mountainous regions. It was quite different from the other Pacific islands I had visited before. I learned that Kadavu has been inhabited by the Fijian people for over 2,500 years, and they have preserved their customs and traditions despite Western influence. I visited one of their villages where I was welcomed with a Kava ceremony, and I was able to learn about their way of life and culture. The villagers showed me their ancient tools and crafts, including tapa (bark cloth) making and woodcarvings. They even taught me some words in their language. I compared this unique cultural experience to my previous visits to other Pacific islands.
