I visited the Jigokudani Monkey Park on a winter afternoon. Located in the Yamanouchi town of Nagano Prefecture, it is home to the Japanese Macaques, commonly known as Snow Monkeys. The park is situated amidst a picturesque forest with streams and waterfalls in the background. The temperature outside was below freezing, and snow covered the ground. The monkeys roamed freely and were completely comfortable in their environment. I observed how they soaked in the hot springs to keep themselves warm. The macaques' fur absorbed water like a sponge, but it did not freeze. They looked relaxed and content, enjoying the serene and peaceful surroundings. I also learned that the park has a long history, starting from when the locals offered the monkeys food during winter months many years ago. Gradually, a bond formed between them, leading to the creation of this winter haven for these monkeys. I enjoyed my visit and found it to be a unique and memorable experience, observing the harmony between humans and wildlife.
