The Mighty Jiayuguan Fort: A Historical Wonder of China
Jiayuguan Fort is a magnificent historical wonder located in the Gobi desert. As soon as I arrived, I was in awe of its impressive walls that span 1,700 meters long and up to 12 meters high. The fort was built in 1372 during the Ming Dynasty, and was strategically placed on the western frontier of China. It served as the final defense for Chinese armies stationed along the Great Wall, providing protection from invaders. The surrounding desert landscape adds to the mystery and allure of this fascinating landmark. I compared Jiayuguan Fort to other renowned fortifications like the Great Wall of China and realized that each fortress has its unique place in history and cultural significance.
