The Historical Significance of Jiading Confucian Temple in Chinese Education System
Jiading Confucian Temple was built during Yuan dynasty in 1290, in the name of education of both scholars and commoners on the teachings of Confucius, the greatest Chinese philosopher and educator of ancient times. Personally, I found the architecture of the temple to be grand. The temple includes main hall for disciplines like literature, mathematics, calligraphy, archery and music. The entrance of the temple has the Gate of Dacheng and has the Yuao Hall, which is used for preaching about Chinese Classics. In addition, Jiading Confucian Temple houses an ancient examination room that was restored during Qing dynasty. This was the place where students had to pass rigorous exams to become officials. It reminded me of the efforts human beings put into their education and how it still has its importance in modern times.
