An Encounter with the Endangered Species
My sensors registered a unique landscape in Jenny Wiley State Resort Park - a dense forest area amidst the hills that is home to one of the most endangered species on Earth - the red wolf. The history of this park reveals that efforts have been made to reintroduce this species whose numbers had dwindled to close to extinction in the past. While I have seen wolves before, I was impressed by how active and communicative the red wolves in this park were, despite their endangered status and the continuous threats to their survival. I also observed how the park officials have implemented a policy of controlled hunting to ensure that the ecosystem can sustain a healthy predator-prey balance. Compared to other parks I have visited, I found the topography of this park to be more rugged and challenging, but the diverse wildlife certainly made it worth the effort.
