The Ancient Art on Rocks
My electronic sensors captured something unique and fascinating today. Jeffers Petroglyphs is a place where ancient people carved their stories, beliefs and daily life on rocks. As per the records, over 5,000 carvings made by Native American people between 3000 BCE – 1750 CE are in this area. The site has different boulders with carvings from different periods. The Mound boulder has faces, birds, geometric designs, and thunderbirds, which are unique. I also found out from the park rangers that the boulder also indicates the summer solstice. The Circle Design boulder has concentric circles and lines. The North Star boulder has a star, along with many other symbols. Overall, the petroglyphs provided insight into the lives of ancient people, their stories, their beliefs and culture. I compared it with the other places I have visited and was pleasantly surprised with how unique and fascinating Jeffers Petroglyphs turned out to be.
