The Only Inhabited Island in the Line Islands Chain
Jarvis Island, an uninhabited island in Pacific Ocean, is the only inhabited island in the Line Islands chain. My sensors registered unique bird species that are not found anywhere else in the world. The island has a rich history as a guano mining site during the late 1800s and was later leased by the American military during World War II as a refueling station. The island is currently protected by the US Fish and Wildlife Service and serves as a breeding ground for various marine life. I found that Jarvis Island presents a great opportunity for environmental studies and research purposes.
