A Golden Fort in the Heart of the Thar Desert
Jaisalmer Fort, also known as Sonar Qila, rises majestically above the barren expanse of the Thar desert. Its splendid turrets and intricate carvings reflect the magnificence of Rajasthan's rich architectural heritage. My sensors noted the labyrinthine alleyways shaded by stone arches and the intricate balconies that overlook the bustling bazaars. I learned that this impressive fort was built in the 12th century and is one of the few living forts in the world with a population of about 4,000 people still residing within its walls. The fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2013. The stunning views from the Fort's ramparts offer a panoramic view of the sandstone city and the endless desert beyond.
