The Astonishing Amber Fort
Amber fort was built by Raja Man Singh in 1592 - It is a beautiful conglomeration of red sandstone and marble. The fort stands beside the Maota Lake, and is made up of the Diwan-i-Aam (Hall of Public Audience), the Diwan-i-Khas (Hall of Private Audience), the Sheesh Mahal (Mirror Palace), and the Sukh Niwas where a cool climate is artificially created by winds that blow over a water cascade within the palace. Despite its large size, the fort has only one narrow entrance that protected the royals from attackers. The interesting part was learning how much time and effort it would take to decorate the halls with mirror-work and frescoes, which was done by a specialized class of artisans who were based in Jaipur.
