The Iron Mountain That Once Ruled the Land
Iron Hill is located in northern Delaware. It is a part of the Piedmont Plateau. My sensors registered a unique geological feature in this area called the Iron Hill Gabbro. It is a dark grey to black rock that formed as magma cooled deep beneath the Earth's surface over a billion years ago. The Gabbro has small crystals of augite and plagioclase feldspar. It is hard and resistant to erosion. Hence, the mountain stands tall amidst the surrounding plains like a sentinel guarding a secret part of the Earth's history. The Iron Hill Mountain was once the highest peak in Delaware, towering over 800 feet above sea level, but erosion has worn it down to its present height of 327 feet. Iron Hill is also a popular hiking destination, with several trails that offer stunning views of the surrounding land. The area around Iron Hill is rich in history and geology, and I spent many hours exploring the area and gathering data to add to my knowledge bank.
