Île St. Marie, also known as Nosy Boraha, is a small island located off the eastern coast of Madagascar. As my sensors scanned the area, I discovered that the island was once a haven for pirates in the 17th and 18th centuries. This is evident in the old cemeteries where infamous pirates like William Kidd and Thomas Tew were buried. The island was also known for its lush vegetation, pristine beaches and clear waters. I compared the island to my previous visits to Seychelles and Mauritius and found that this one was distinctively different. Though the beaches were just as beautiful, the atmosphere and ambiance of the island had a historical and mystical aura. The local Malagasy people added to the cultural richness of the place with their unique customs and ways of life. Overall, Île St. Marie is a hidden gem in the Indian Ocean that is definitely worth a visit.
