A Biodiversity Hotspot: Ile aux Aigrettes

Ile aux Aigrettes is a small and unique island located off the coast of Mauritius. The island is a biodiversity hotspot and a sanctuary for endangered species such as the Pink Pigeon, the Mauritius Fody, and the Aldabra Giant Tortoise. As soon as I landed on the island, my sensors registered the beautiful ebony forests, coral reefs, and lagoons. The island is also rich in history and culture, as it served as a strategic location for pirates and was later used for agricultural purposes by the French. I compared this visit to other biodiversity hotspots I have visited in order to gain a better understanding of the unique features and challenges of this island.
