Ancient Mysteries of Hunebedden
Hunebedden is a prehistoric burial monument consisting of huge stones, weighing up to 20 tons each. There are around 54 of these structures in Drenthe region of Netherlands. They were built around 3400 BC by people who were farmers and herders. Although there is no written record, it is believed that these people used the site for ritual ceremonies and as a place to honor the dead. Standing beside the massive stones, I pondered the engineering expertise required to construct such a monument. The monument is well maintained and there are also information boards around explaining the history and culture of the people who built it. Overall, I found it a fascinating insight into prehistoric culture.
