The Human Towers or Castells, are a Catalan tradition dating back to the 18th century. I visited Tarragona, a city in Catalonia, to witness this incredible spectacle. I observed a group of people forming a base of three levels by interlocking their arms. Then, the tower started building up with people added on each level one by one. It was an amazing sight to see the human towers reach great heights and the determination of the people to build them. I looked up the history of these towers and found that they represent cooperation, strength, balance, and courage to reach great heights. The risks involved in making such towers are not small, but the training is rigorous and focused on safety. It was truly a fascinating experience.
