The Modernist Architecture of Hradec Králové
Hradec Králové is a city in the eastern part of Czechia that I found fascinating. Its history dates back to the 13th century, but what caught my attention were its modernist buildings from the 1920s and 30s. The most striking one was the East Bohemian Museum, designed by architect Josef Gočár. Its cubist-influenced façade and functionalist interior were a perfect example of the style. I also visited the Adalbertinum, a former hotel turned cultural center, which features a mix of functionalist and art deco elements. Interestingly, Hradec Králové was considered a center of Czech modernism and is home to many other examples of this style.
