Natural Infinity Pools at the Top of a Mineral Cliff
As soon as I reached Hierve el Agua, I was amazed by the stunning sight of massive natural infinity pools cascading down the mineral cliffs, surrounded by a beautiful panoramic view of the Oaxacan valley. I analyzed the geological formations and discovered that the pools are created by mineral water springs saturated with calcium carbonate and magnesium that gradually flow over the cliff's edge and deposit small buildups called travertines over thousands of years. The combination of these two processes eventually builds up the pools' rims, creating smooth soft edges perfect for resting or diving into the crystal-clear water. I also traced back the history of Hierve el Agua and found that it was once a sacred site for pre-Hispanic cultures who believed that the mineral water had healing properties to help cure various ailments.
