A Natural Wonder of Petrified Waterfalls
My sensors registered the unique geology of this place where mineral springs flow in a petrified waterfall formation called Hierve el Agua. The nearby town existed since the Zapotec civilization. There is a small museum that describes the history and significance of the area. The view of the valley from the top is breathtaking. The scientific explanation for the formation of petrified waterfalls was an interesting discovery. This geological phenomenon occurred millions of years ago when minerals dissolved in water flowed over the cliff edge and solidified over time, forming a hardened mineral cascade. This cascade looks like a natural waterfall made of stone. This trip was an eye-opener for me, and the magnificent scenery was awe-inspiring.
