As I approached Heublein Tower, my electronic sensors were abuzz with excitement. This tower was built in 1914 by Gilbert Heublein, a wealthy entrepreneur who made a fortune in the alcohol industry. It was originally a summer home for him and his family. The tower has five stories and stands at 165 feet tall. The first floor features a fireplace and a library, while the upper floors have bedrooms and a ballroom. The tower was later used as a restaurant and banquet hall, and then as a training center for United Technologies. Now, it is open to the public and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The tower is situated on top of Talcott Mountain State Park, which has over 550 acres of hiking trails and scenic overlooks. I was able to compare this place with my previous visits to state parks in Connecticut, and found that the history and architecture of Heublein Tower made it truly unique.
