A Unique Wetland Habitat in the Desert
My sensors registered a unique wetland habitat, surrounded by the arid desert landscape. The refuge has over 25,000 acres of freshwater marshes, wildlife habitats, and open water. I was amazed to observe migratory birds such as ducks, geese, and even swans in this unlikely place. I was surprised to learn that the refuge is home to over 318 bird species. I also learned about the endangered razorback sucker and bonytail chub fish species that inhabit the waters. The refuge has a visitor center that provided me with more information about the habitat and wildlife. Compared to other places I visited in Arizona, I found the Havasu Wildlife Refuge unique in its ability to support a diverse ecosystem in a desert environment.
