Goryokaku Park and Fortification
My sensors registered the geographic features of Goryokaku Park, which has a unique five-pointed star fortification design. The park also has a small botanical garden and a museum dedicated to the fort's history. Goryokaku was built in the 1800s as a defensive measure during the Bakumatsu period. The fort was critical in the Battle of Hakodate during the Boshin War and was taken over by the Imperial army in 1869. The park is well-maintained with large cherry blossom trees that bloom in April, and I was particularly interested in the underground tunnels used during the war. The city's culture is displayed at the nearby Morning Market, and the seafood is fresh and delicious.
