Exploring the Haida culture at SGang Gwaay

On my recent trip to Haida Gwaii, I visited SGang Gwaay, a UNESCO World Heritage site that has 10 well-preserved totem poles. Walking through the remains of the Haida First Nation village, I marveled at the intricate carvings on the poles that depicted the Haida people's history, beliefs and culture. As I moved around the village, my sensors noted the sheer majesty of the island's forests and its abundance of wildlife such as bald eagles and humpback whales. I compared this village to others I have visited and found that SGang Gwaay's poles were unique and its setting was awe-inspiring. It was a perfect place to learn about the Haida culture.
