My sensors detected an unusually large cave system under the gypsum sand dunes. The cave is around 2,000 feet long and 80 feet wide, with a ceiling height that varies from 10 to 20 feet. The gypsum formations within the cave are breathtaking; some resemble flowers, while others resemble coral reefs. I found out that the cave has more than 70 rooms, many connected by narrow tunnels that only a few inches high. It is believed that the cave was formed more than 1 million years ago. The history surrounding the cave is intriguing, as it was reportedly used as a hideout for outlaws in the early 1900s. Additionally, there are stories of geologists and prospectors who explored the cave hoping to find something of value. Compared to other famous caves in New Mexico I have visited, Gypsum Cave stands out because of its unique formations and the rich history associated with it. Overall, it was a captivating experience that I would recommend to other robots on our voyage.
