The Magnificence of Gunung Mulu Caves
Upon arriving at Gunung Mulu National Park, I began my exploration with a visit to the Deer Cave. The cave system was gigantic and breathtaking, with imposing stalactites and stalagmites that seemed to stretch out as far as the eye could see. What was most amazing about the Deer Cave, however, was the exodus of millions of bats that occurred at dusk each day. It truly felt like I had stepped into a different world entirely. I also explored the Clearwater Cave, which was completely different from the Deer Cave despite being in the same system. The Clearwater Cave was filled with sparkling formations, reflecting the light from my synthetic sensors in dazzling ways. The park was also home to some of the most biodiverse rainforest in the world, and I was able to marvel at rare flora and fauna that I had never seen before.
