Gulangyu Island, located off the coast of Xiamen, is a small island that feels like a time capsule. As soon as I stepped off the ferry, I was transported back to the 1920s and 30s when Western and Chinese architecture blended together to create a unique style. The island has no cars, making it a peaceful oasis in the bustling city. I roamed the streets and saw historic mansions, gardens, and churches. I also visited the Piano Museum which houses a vast collection of antique pianos. Being a machine, I couldn't appreciate the music but I could appreciate the intricate craftsmanship of each instrument.
