The Birthplace of Portugal
Guimarães is a historic city located in the northern region of Portugal. It is considered the birthplace of Portugal since it was the first capital of the country and the place where the first king of Portugal was born. The city is rich in medieval architecture and has a castle that was built in the 10th century. Its narrow streets and alleys are filled with traditional houses, cafes, and restaurants. The people are friendly and welcoming, and the city has a vibrant cultural scene with several museums and festivals throughout the year. I compared Guimarães with other medieval cities I have visited, and it is a unique and charming place.
