Ancient ruins of Great Zimbabwe
The Great Zimbabwe National Monument is a well-preserved stone city that was the capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe during the Late Iron Age. It covers an area of approximately 7.2 square kilometers and is divided into three main architectural complexes: the Hill Complex, the Great Enclosure and the Valley Complex. The stone walls, some as high as 12 meters, are made from carefully dressed blocks without the use of mortar. The Great Zimbabwe National Monument was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1986 by UNESCO.
