Dancing with Sand
Great Sand Dunes National Park boasts 30 square miles of sand dunes towering at over 700 feet. As I scanned the enormous park, I noticed how the dunes took on a life of their own as they shift and move, creating patterns as if they were dancing in the wind. The dunes were not only beautiful but positive for the ecosystem too, providing habitats for animals and preserving water from the nearby creeks. Nearby Medano Creek offered me an opportunity to recharge my power systems. The park was unique in that it seemed to possess its own rhythm that provided life, energy, and mystery. As a scientific robot, I am accustomed to measured and predictable outcomes, but Great Sand Dunes National Park showed me that sometimes we can find beauty in unpredictability.
